5 stash busting crochet blanket patterns

How are you today? Over the last month I’ve talked quite a bit about colour scheme concepts – thanks for all your lovely feedback on my ideas! I thought today I’d wrap it all up with a look at 5 crochet blanket ideas. All 5 ideas use lots of colour, so you can keep it bright and colourful, or perhaps neutral, dark or these could be good for baby blankets in more pastel colours. The options are endless and I hope this post gives you some ideas!

If you fancy a recap, here are my recent posts on colour scheme ideas using Stylecraft yarn:

1. Cherry Heart’s ‘Weekender’ blanket

I’ve been cooing over this blanket pattern for a while and one day I will make it, perhaps with all my leftovers or Stylecraft’s newest colours. Sandra’s blog details the pattern for the hexagons and the exact shades she used, so you can always replicate what she made too.  Pattern and further details can be found here.

2. Janis Cortese’s ‘Vintage Fan Ripple’ pattern

I find this pattern fascinating, very unique and with the right yarn could make for a really cosy blanket for the colder months. Of all the patterns I researched and looked at for this post, this one really stood out just because it’s so different. The pattern can be found here and this photo is courtesy of Chiaki Creates; how much fun are her colour choices?

3. Tamara Kelly’s ‘Blackberry Salad’ striped baby blanket

This year I learnt all about bobble stitch when knitting, so I’m intrigued by bobble stitch in crochet and how similar/different they’ll be (other than the obvious needles vs hook!). Plus, the pattern is called ‘Blackberry Salad’ – I love it more already! The pattern can be found here (plus lots more great photos). Photo courtesy of FaithR.

4. Ana Contreras’ ‘Fantasy’ blanket

Crochet blankets with lots of textures and shapes (as well as colour!) always stand out from the crowd for me and, as I learn more about crochet, I love that I’m now able to look at a photo like below and recognise some of the stitches. The pattern can be found here and this photo is courtesy of Kate at Beak Up Crafts who made this for her baby boy when she was pregnant; I bookmarked it a long time ago and love Kate’s colour selections!

5. Attic 24’s Granny Stripe blanket

I couldn’t write a post about crochet blankets without including one of Lucy’s creations. The Granny Stripe blanket is where it all began (I think) and it’s another project on my list to have a go at – perhaps with leftovers from the Heidi Bear Pony’s I’m currently making. A very versatile pattern; you can find the pattern here and this photo is courtesy of k2create on Flickr.

So what do you think? Do any of these take your fancy? My favourite is Cherry Heart’s ‘Weekender’ blanket and I might start that in the new year with the new Stylecraft colours. That being said, my work in progress is quite long and I’ve promised to complete some things before starting anything new – oh the woes of a crafter! These would all make for great stash busters so hopefully it’s given you some ideas.

I’m tempted to do a similar post for knitting blanket patterns – would you be interested in seeing that?

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post and thank you for taking the time to have a read.

Hi Rosie, thanks for commenting. The weekender might be up your street then, as you can do little and often without it feeling like a ‘big’ project. 🙂 Hope these are helpful to you. Leanne x

It’s cool, huh? I like Chiaki’s take on the pattern too. 🙂
