When I think back to my original plan with This Little Space of Mine it was always to share enjoyment of being at home and being creative, with positivity thrown in for good balance. I’ve never lost that original feeling, but sometimes it’s worth reminding myself and you, the reader, that it’s always there in every post I write. Should I be more blatant in that? I don’t know – what do you think?
Reading the latest issue of The Simple Things last Sunday morning I feel like it compliments my blog well. I’ll be the first to admit that I’d seen it mentioned online and seen it in shops and thought it looked a little pretentious, but I was very wrong. So wrong I’m now a subscriber; seeing it arrive through the post always makes me happy.
So why do I love The Simple Things?
- It feels educated; every issue I learn something new – about the food I eat, the clothes I wear and books I might like to read but would never have found out about otherwise.
- The theme throughout, to me, is about going back go basics – the basics of what makes us happy and what makes life good. Aka, turn off the computer, step outside and be with the people we love.
- Their motto is ‘taking time to live well’; we could all do with a bit of that in our lives. I’m forever hearing friends say they’re stressed or busy, reading online about being burned out etc. And for what? This magazine reminds me that stepping back from time to time is healthy.
- I ‘get it’. Sounds pretty basic, but I understand their messaging and it’s consistent. That might not mean much to everyone, but knowing there’s no confusion or ambiguity makes for a comfortable and consistent read.
